There’s some pretty icy weather forecast for the Western Cape this weekend, so we can’t think of anything more appropriate than making a big pot of Gluhwein to ward off the chills.

Gluhwein Recipe

  •  750ml Red Wine (Try our Babel or Shiraz)
  • 250ml Water
  • 125ml Sugar
  • 1 Pinch Cloves
  • 2 Cinnamon sticks
  • 1 Lemon or Orange, sliced
  • 30ml Lemon juice

Directions

  • Mix the water, sugar, citrus slices and spices in a large pot.
  • Place on a warm stove, to dissolve the sugar, then bring the syrup boil for 5 minutes to develop aspicy flavour.
  • Add the red wine and lemon juice, and heat until just below boiling point.

Enjoy your  Gluhwein warm in a glass with friends on a rainy day. And if you’re not up to making your own, we are serving it in Babel this weekend, made from our own red wine!
