Gardener (Soetmelksvlei)

Babylonstoren has an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about general gardening and possesses thorough plant knowledge.

Requirements

• A completed National Senior Certificate qualification (matric / Grade 12).
• Good general knowledge of fruit, vegetables and herbs.
• Good general knowledge of fynbos.
• Fluent in Afrikaans and English.
• Must be familiar with the Simondium Valley.
• Good practical skills and experience in gardening to be able to maintain the orchard and vegetable garden.
• Energetic, physically strong and healthy to be able to complete tasks alone.
• Ability to function independently but also able to form part of a small team.
• Self-motivated and able to plan own tasks for the day.
• Studious and interested in plants and gardening practices dating back to 1897.
• Work in a uniform daily that resembles the 1897 era.
• Available to work during hospitality hours, which also includes weekends.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning the yard.
• Weed control.
• Pest and plague control on fruit and vegetables.
• Prune hedges and plants.
• Plant and harvest vegetables and herbs.
• Manage irrigation and water plants by hand.
• Any gardening-related tasks.
• Ability to comfortably interact with guests regarding gardens.
• Ability to present garden tours.
• Provide support to restaurants and home for fresh material as needed.
• Provide support for the workshops that are hosted at Soetmelksvlei.
