Fresh Production Manager (JHB)

Babylonstoren is hiring a Fresh Production Manager for their warehouse in Johannesburg. The ideal candidate has proven experience in operational and staff management in a warehousing environment, knowledge of the agricultural fresh-produce industry, and good communication skills.

Minimum requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in logistics, procurement, operations and/or supply chain management.
  • At least three years’ hands-on experience in a logistics, distribution, production or warehousing environment in the agricultural fresh-produce industry is required.
  • Proven track record of excellent customer service.
  • Proven experience in managing a team consisting of 10 or more staff members.
  • General knowledge of the agricultural fresh-produce industry, as well as knowledge of the fresh products that are supplied.
  • Computer literate (MS Office, specifically Excel, Word and Outlook) with a working knowledge of Sage.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, specifically in English and Afrikaans, with the ability to interact with people at all levels within the company structure.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of product packaging (quality and ordering).

Responsibilities

  • Report to the National Fresh Produce Manager in CPT.
  • Compile weekly reports and submit it to management.
  • Execute efficient and accurate orders and expedite orders as necessary.
  • Expedite stock requests and communicate requests to depot staff to maintain adequate stock levels.
  • Monitor fresh produce and packaging stock at BT JHB depot.
  • Participate in stock takes.
  • Prioritise tasks and manage time correctly in order to complete daily tasks timeously.
  • Address and investigate customer complaints.
  • Adhere to all internal control policies of the company.
  • Adhere to all legislation pertaining to the enforcement of hygienic practices.
  • Uphold and work according to all internal and external safety guidelines.
  • Source new suppliers (farmers, growers or materials).
  • Liaise with BT Cape Town to ensure optimal stock procurement.
  • Manage the production team according to company’s standards in order to ensure productivity and desirable work ethics.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimisation and implement innovative techniques to enhance productivity.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with suppliers and stay updated on industry news, new products and emerging trends.
